Chứng khoán Mỹ biến động trái chiều vào thứ Sáu khi chứng khoán trong tháng 9 ghi nhận là tồi tệ nhất kể từ khi bắt đầu đại dịch.

Vào lúc 10:26 ET (14:26 GMT), chỉ số bình quân công nghiệp Dow Jones giảm 85 điểm tương đương 0,3%, trong khi S&P 500 đi ngang và chỉ số NASDAQ tăng 0,3%.

Tháng 9 đang là tháng có hiệu suất tồi tệ nhất đối với chỉ số Dow Jones kể từ tháng 3 năm 2020, và ba chỉ số này đang hướng tới chuỗi 9 tháng tồi tệ nhất trong gần 20 năm.

Các nhà đầu tư đã lo lắng rằng các đợt tăng lãi suất quyết liệt của Cục Dự trữ Liên bang sẽ vượt quá mốc và đẩy nền kinh tế vào suy thoái. Nhưng Fed quyết tâm hạ nhiệt lạm phát, thừa nhận rằng các hành động của họ có thể dẫn đến một số thiệt hại về kinh tế.

Vào thứ Sáu, Phó Chủ tịch của Fed, Lael Brainard nhấn mạnh sự cần thiết phải kiềm chế lạm phát bất kể thế nào, đồng thời cho rằng chính sách sẽ cần phải hạn chế trong một thời gian. “Vì những lý do này, chúng tôi cam kết sẽ tránh rút lui quá sớm.”

Đầu tháng này, Fed đã tăng lãi suất 0,75 điểm lần thứ ba liên tiếp, đẩy lãi suất chuẩn từ 3% lên 3,25%. Tỷ giá tăng đang làm giảm nhiệt thị trường nhà ở và ảnh hưởng đến tâm lý người tiêu dùng, theo báo cáo của một số công ty bao gồm CarMax (NYSE:KMX), cho biết tâm lý thị trường và lạm phát đang gây áp lực lên doanh số bán ô tô đã qua sử dụng.

Nhà sản xuất quần áo thể thao Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) cho biết tỷ suất lợi nhuận sẽ tiếp tục chịu áp lực do giảm giá để giải phóng hàng tồn kho, cùng lúc đó cổ phiếu của hãng đã giảm 11%.

Dầu giảm. Dầu thô WTI giao sau giảm 1,5% xuống 79,97 USD/thùng, trong khi dầu thô Brent giao sau giảm 1,7% xuống 85,69 USD/thùng. Hợp đồng tương lai vàng tăng 0,7% lên $1679.
