Vào lúc 16:04 ET (21:04 GMT), Dow Jones Industrial Average giảm 11 điểm, trong khi S&P 500 giảm 0,4% và NASDAQ Composite giảm 0,7%. Cả ba chỉ số đã phục hồi một số khoản lỗ của mình trong ngày.

Cổ phiếu của Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) đã giảm 3,7% và lần đầu tiên đóng cửa dưới mức giá trị thị trường 2 nghìn tỷ USD kể từ năm 2021. Trong khi đó, cổ phiếu của nhà sản xuất xe điện Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) đã giảm hơn 12% vào thứ Ba, sau khi giảm 65% trong năm 2022, sau khi báo cáo số lượng giao hàng thấp hơn dự kiến trong quý và năm.

Chứng khoán kết thúc năm 2022 với những biểu hiện tồi tệ nhất kể từ năm 2008 khi lãi suất tăng trong suốt cả năm, gây áp lực cho cổ phiếu tăng trưởng và cổ phiếu công nghệ lớn.

Fed đã thực hiện chiến dịch ngăn chặn lạm phát, bắt tay vào tăng lãi suất với tốc độ nhanh nhất trong nhiều thập kỷ và quá trình này vẫn chưa kết thúc. Tại cuộc họp tháng 12, ngân hàng trung ương chỉ ra rằng lãi suất sẽ tiếp tục tăng cho đến khi họ hoàn thành nhiệm vụ kiềm chế tăng giá.

S&P đã mất hơn 19% vào năm ngoái, trong khi Nasdaq giảm 33%.

Các nhà đầu tư hy vọng dữ liệu kinh tế trong tuần này có thể giúp thúc đẩy thị trường. Vào thứ Sáu, báo cáo việc làm cho tháng 12 sẽ được công bố và dữ liệu về sản xuất và biên bản cuộc họp của Fed cũng sẽ được công bố trong tuần. Tuần này cũng sẽ có dữ liệu tồn kho dầu và dữ liệu cơ hội việc làm để các nhà đầu tư xem xét.

Thị trường kỳ vọng Fed sẽ tăng lãi suất chính sách thêm 1/4 điểm phần trăm trong cuộc họp tiếp theo vào tháng 2, tốc độ này sẽ chậm hơn so với các lần tăng lãi suất gần đây nhưng vẫn nằm trên quỹ đạo đi lên.

Cổ phiếu sòng bạc tăng trước triển vọng Macau của Trung Quốc mở cửa trở lại. Cổ phiếu của Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) tăng 3,8%, trong khi cổ phiếu của Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) tăng 2,6%.

Cổ phiếu của Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM) giảm 3,4% và cổ phiếu của Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) giảm 3% sau khi giá dầu thô giảm khoảng 4% vào thứ Ba.
