Investing.com - Ngân hàng trung ương Hàn Quốc đã tăng lãi suất theo kỳ vọng của thị trường vào thứ Tư, để chống lại lạm phát gia tăng và giúp hỗ trợ đồng won bị suy yếu nghiêm trọng.

Ngân hàng Trung ương Hàn Quốc (BoK) tăng lãi suất thêm 50 điểm cơ bản (bps) lên 3%, đưa lãi suất cho vay lên mức cao nhất trong một thập kỷ. Động thái này diễn ra khi nước này đang vật lộn với lạm phát đạt mức cao nhất trong 24 năm trong năm nay, điều này đã đè nặng lên nền kinh tế lớn thứ tư của châu Á.

Lần tăng lãi suất hôm thứ Tư là lần tăng lãi suất thứ sáu của BoK trong năm nay. Ngân hàng trung ương là một trong những ngân hàng đầu tiên trên thế giới bắt đầu thắt chặt chính sách do hậu quả của đại dịch COVID, với chu kỳ tăng mới nhất của nó bắt đầu vào tháng 8 năm 2021. Nhưng điều này chưa giúp ích được gì nhiều trong việc kiềm chế lạm phát.

Nền kinh tế Hàn Quốc cũng đang quay cuồng trước những tác động mạnh mẽ của sự suy thoái kinh tế nghiêm trọng ở Trung Quốc, một đối tác thương mại lớn. Giá cả hàng hóa cao hơn cũng đã đè nặng lên nước này, do nước này phụ thuộc nhiều vào nhập khẩu lương thực và nhiên liệu.

Trong khi lạm phát đã giảm nhẹ vào tháng 10, nó không làm giảm được quan điểm thắt chặt của BoK. Ngân hàng gần đây đã phát đi tín hiệu rằng họ kỳ vọng lạm phát sẽ tiếp tục tăng trong ngắn hạn, có xu hướng khoảng 5% vào quý đầu tiên của năm 2023.

Việc tăng lãi suất hôm thứ Tư cũng làm thất vọng một bộ phận nhỏ các nhà giao dịch đặt cược rằng áp lực từ Fed sẽ đẩy BoK tăng lãi suất nhiều hơn dự kiến.
